Thornton Water Treatment Plant Replacement (CO)

With a rapid growth in population, the city of Thornton needed to replace its aging drinking water plant. It needed to be resilient and robust enough to meet water demands 365 days a year, including winter water temperatures of 4°C. It needed to be flexible enough to treat the multiple source waters Thornton has in its portfolio to Partnership for Safe Water standards. It also needed to have a robust taste and odor treatment system to mitigate algae-sourced challenges within Thornton’s raw water storage reservoirs. This was a key part as taste and odor were the biggest complaints of Thornton customers.

To increase San Antonio’s water supply, SAWS looked for an innovative solution that didn’t rely on the fragile Edwards Aquifer. The 142-mile Vista Ridge pipeline provides an additional sustainable safe water resource that will serve the region for decades.

Pyramid Peak Water Treatment Plant Expansion (AZ)

Prior to this expansion project, the Pyramid Peak Water Treatment Plant (WTP) was rated to treat 48 million gallons of water per day (mgd) while operating on a reliable capacity of 39 mgd. The expansion increased the facility to a reliable capacity of 54 mgd. The expansion was deemed necessary to serve anticipated growth in the northern areas of the city of Glendale and city of Peoria in Arizona.
